February is another of the most popular months to visit Monteverde. Temperatures are once again at a very comfortable 64 to 81 degrees, and rainfall is just under three inches for the whole month. When you consider that much of the region is green rainforest, you’ll realize that under three inches of rain is staggeringly low. The days are warm and comfortable, but it’s smart to pack a sweater or a jacket for the cooler nights and early mornings.
February throughout much of the world is cold and snowy, so there are lots of travelers heading to Monteverde. That means virtually all tourist businesses are up and running at full capacity, but it can also mean higher prices for flights and busier hotels, restaurants and guided tours. February is also the start of the Monteverde Music Festival. This is the biggest festival of the year in Monteverde, and it is an amazing opportunity to hear Costa Rica’s best musical artists in one place.
Hotels tend to sell out thanks to the music festival, so be sure to make reservations as far in advance as possible. If you want to stay with many of the musicians in a luxury environment, the Hotel Belmar is one of the top hotels in Monteverde Costa Rica. After catching a great live music performance, keep the fun going with dinner at the steakhouse Toro Tinto. This restaurant boasts excellent desserts, a wide range of wines and truly excellent steaks.
You’ll definitely want to spend time outside in February, so make your way to the Curi-Cancha Reserve. More than 200 birds call the reserve their home, making this a true birdwatching paradise. Hike along miles of nature trails and spot birds as well as mammals like the two-toed sloth and the capuchin monkey.
