Arenal in March

March in Arenal is wonderful, with temperatures that hover in the high 80s each day and almost entirely dry days. At night, some rain can be expected, but it won’t interfere with your daytime plans or your outdoor activities. To be safe, bring along some gear suitable for rain, and you’ll be prepared for anything.

Since March is in the dry season, and since so many travelers take advantage of Easter and spring holidays, this month is one of the busiest of the year in Arenal. Visiting Arenal in March means plenty of crowds, so it is unlikely that you’ll be able to find any kind of last-minute deals. It is also worth noting that March is usually when Easter occurs, so there may be several days in a row when businesses are closed. Even public transportation will cease over Easter weekend!

March is the ideal time to head out to Cerro Chato, or Chato Volcano. Also found within the Arenal Volcano National Park, is it smaller and less known then the mighty Arenal. It holds a stunning crater lake that you can hike around for some spectacular views. Unwind after a long hike at the Bougainvillea Lake Lodge, a tiny inn with just a handful of rooms and a boutique feel. Continue the upscale experience by going for a delicious meal at La Parrilla de Maria Bonita, a restaurant with a tasty ceviche starter and a long list of amazing steaks.
