Arenal in December

It’s officially the sunny season in Arenal in December. Temperatures will pick up slightly from November, and there will definitely be more sunshine and less rain. The great weather coupled with Christmas holidays around the world make December one of the busiest months of the year in Arenal. Unsurprisingly, that also means higher costs and busier attractions in the region.

Since it’s the sunny season, you’ll definitely want to bring along a brimmed hat to protect yourself from the sun. It can also do double duty in the off chance that a surprise bit of rain comes through one evening. That will come in very handy if you’re outdoors exploring the beautiful scenery that Arenal has to offer. Definitely bring along a hat if you’re heading to Mistico Arenal Hanging Bridges Park, one of the top attractions in the area. You can start with the self-guided trail through the tree canopies and over the hanging bridges, or you can get an adrenaline rush by ziplining through Spider Monkey Canyon.

A short walk from the Mistico Arenal Hanging Bridges Park is Lost Iguana Resort and Spa, a popular accommodation choice just north of the Arenal Dam. Although there are just 42 guest rooms, the resort boasts the amenities of a much larger facility. While there are two wonderful restaurants on the premises, it’s worth leaving the resort to dine at the incredible Cascajo’s del Arenal. The Latin American cuisine is phenomenal, and the refreshing daiquiris are made with local fresh fruit picked from nearby farms. Keep in mind that Christmas is a big holiday in Costa Rica. While most businesses and hotels are open over the Christmas season, some shops and attractions will be closed for a day or two
